NANTAHALA RIVER
The Nantahala River in Macon County, NC, is a beautiful mountain stream of medium size set in the Nantahala Gorge. This river is an excellent class room for the beginner fly fisherman. Under delayed harvest regulations, the Nantahala is catch and release from the beginning of October through the first of June.
Stocking of the Nantahala River occurs in five months (October, November, March, April & May). This river is teaming with trout, some well over 20 inches waiting to battle with the fly angler.
TUCKASEGEE RIVER
The Tuckasegee is a tailwater in Western North Carolina just outside of the towns of Sylva & Dillsboro in Jackson County. This river is also an excellent classroom for the beginner fly fisherman. The Tuck recieves almost 50,000 trout from October - June with numerous 20 plus inch fish mixed in. While fishing The Tuck you truly have a chance to catch a trophy sized trout.
SNOWBIRD CREEK
Snowbird, just outside of Robbinsville, NC, is truly an amazing fishery with native Brookies in the high country and winter spawning runs of Steelhead out of Lake Santeetlah. Snowbird has plenty of hold over fish from stockings as well as beautiful, wild Rainbows.
The lower reaches of Snowbird receive stockings in March and throughout the summer. So if you want a chance at a trophy Steelhead this is the place to find them. Steelhead fishing is recommended for more advanced fly fisherman.
CULLASAJA RIVER
The Cullasaja River flows from near the Town of Highlands, North Carolina. This stream is hatchery supported, therefore closed during the month of March. The river flows through the Cullasaja Gorge and meets the Little Tennessee River near Franklin, North Carolina.
This stream has easy roadside access for the angler that doesn't necessarily want to walk the back country of Western North Carolina. The stream is beautiful with numerous waterfalls along its trek through the gorge and provides for breathtaking views of the mountains. The fishing's not bad either!
